August Report

This is a really big month and I have a lot going on.

Most importantly, my mother's birthday is coming up, and I must remind myself every day not to forget it. I've set every digital reminder possible. If only my Nook Color had a calendar with an alarm/reminder app.

This month I get to take a vacation. First to visit Mom, and swim in her new pool, and bike the gentle hills of the Silverado Trail to prep for next month's triathlon. I'll get to teach Fintan to swim once and for all. And I'll probably spend too much time finalizing the costumes I'm making for the second half of my vacation. Yes, taking the bike AND the sewing machine!

Although I still don't know where Fintan is going to Kindergarten, I'm helping to start a new school that should be ready in time for him to start 1st grade. I went to my first "board of directors" meeting (advisory committeee?) today and met all the great people working toward this awesome school. I want to jump in but I'm not sure where best to get involved yet (Facilities sounds interesting) and also I have a huge semester at IU coming up, what with NaNoWriMo right smack in the middle of it. Somehow I'm going to have to slow down.

My book is now out in print, although I'll probably spend the month tweaking the details because I wasn't thrilled with the copy Lulu.com sent. It's fine, really, I'm just ... not thrilled with it (can you say perfectionist?). I will probably not really and truly get back to my short story until next month, even after waiting a whole painful month for critters.org critiques to come in. All of those were helpful. I wish I had put my novel on critters ... but then again, my readers were great and I would have been overwhelmed.

Well, that's all for now. Keep in touch.
